I love cake smashes. I was introduced to the idea by one of my friends and was immediately sold! They're such a fun way to celebrate milestones in your baby's life. I want to share with you how easy this is to set-up at home!

Set-up was simple. I cut and taped a wooden backdrop (click photo for link to purchase) onto our dining room wall and placed our Boppy baby chair right on top of our kitchen table. Simple as that. I opted to use the kitchen table for easy cleanup. Try doing this during the afternoon for the best natural lighting.

I also would suggest photographing every stage: the set-up, your baby alone, baby with the cake, then of course, the cake smash! This photo sequence makes a great layout for baby books and social media posts.

The cake recipe is totally up to you - Pinterest is FULL of baby-friendly recipes. I personally find it easiest to just use a box cake. If you want to make it allergy-friendly (like me!), buy a gluten-free cake mix and use bananas or applesauce instead of eggs. I also cut the cake in half since this was my son's "half" birthday (turning 6 months!). Happy cake smashing and congratulations to your little one on their milestones!
